“Mega Challenge Becomes National Youth Carnival”

National Youth Carnival (NYC) previously known as Mega Challenge (MC) is the largest student oriented co-curricular competitive event in the history of Pakistan. Its aim is to provide the platform for youth to showcase their skills, boost their confidence and develop creative thinking in their relevant field of interest. However, this is a collaborative initiative of Liaison Corporation and Directorate of Youth Affairs, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In 2013, Mega Challenge (MC) was organized for the first time at Institute of Management Sciences, Peshawar. In MC’13, the participants competed in 10 different categories. After the smashing success of MC’13 the Liaison Corporation in collaboration with Directorate of Youth Affairs, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa decide to extended its boundaries and widened its scope from Peshawar to Provincial Level. Although absence of peace and tranquility had terribly affected all the sectors of life in Pakistan in particular Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, therefore, government, media and youth had to play wide role in the restoration of Peace.

In 2015, Liaison Corporation (LC) while fulfilling its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) planned Mega Challenge (MC’15) after the successful execution of Mega Challenge 2013. It was a youth recreational event that comprised of competitions among the educational institutions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa along with other social events including Urdu Mushaira, Pashto Mushaira and Concert. The theme of the entire event was Peace & Youth. That was also a collaborative effort of Directorate of Youth Affairs, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Liaison Corporation which was held in FAST-NUCES Peshawar on April 2015. The aim of the event was to use the youth as an ambassadors for promoting peace and media to send the message of peace across the globe.

In 2016, after the successful execution of MC’15; Mega Challenge 2016 (MC’16) was organized on March 05-06, 2016 at Peshawar Sports Complex, Qayyum Stadium, Peshawar. MC’16 involved incredible youth members from leading educational institutions (universities, degree awarding institutes, degree colleges, colleges) of all parts of the country and the purpose was to highlight and promote their talent globally. Approximately 1,000 participants were part of that and it was the most historic event of its kind. 60+ educational institutions of Pakistan took participated in this event and competed in 26 different categories. It was two days event and was started with the introductory speech of Mr. Imran Khan, Chairman Pakistan Tehreek e Insaaf as Chief Guest of the Opening Ceremony. Formal speech was presented from the Host Department by Mr. Mahmood Khan, Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and was concluded with the award distribution by Mr. Parvez Khattak, The Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The enthusiasm of participants, guest, management and officials made this event successful and boost the event to next level.

In 2017, Mega Challenge (MC) becomes National Youth Carnival (NYC) and its going to be on a bigger magnitude by widening its scope to Pakistan Level. With even more categories for the teams to participate in and our target is to involve 25,000 youth across Pakistan. National Youth Carnival 2017 will be an example by setting new standards in this volatile environment.
